Gate Crasher

It's all about the beats this weekend, with three party crews going up against each other on Saturday, apparently due to unforeseeable circumstances. But all are worth a visit. Just don't make any Sunday morning plans to visit your grandma.

PARTY

To warm you up for the weekend of electro, what better place to head than Berlin, still the epicentre of all things deep, dark and decent, techno-wise. Berlin Calling will feature Mr Tomcat, Felix Moreno and Jaydubb, all of whom have German origins but call Bangkok their home. It's on tonight (Sep 21) at Glow (96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-261-4446, www.glowbkk.com). Entry is B250 with a drink. Things should go late, not Berlin-style late, but late enough to ruin your Sat. No worries though, because you can keep rallying the next night.

PARTY

You may need a little strategy to cope with the surge of options on Sat (Sep 22). We are recommending starting early at the Wit(c)h Love party at Witch's Tavern (306/1 Sukhumvit Soi 55, 02-391-9791, www.witch-tavern.com). (Cute trick with the (c) noted). This time round, the With Love crew (facebook.com/withlovebkk) is trying to breathe life into the Thong Lor venue, and has booked some Frenchies to deliver the beats - Pepperpot and Oliver A, who are in the region and have been persuaded to drop by. They won't be on till late, so see the usual suspects Masa, Panda, and Peppe spin early outside the bar as the sun goes down over Thong Lor, then perhaps return after dinner for the headliners for a well-rounded evening. A 6am finish is billed, so pace yourself and don't forget to drink some water.

PARTY

The other option for after dinner on Sat (Sep 22) is delivered by Aftr Prty, who are celebrating their first anniversary of shennanigans at Glow (96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-261-4446, www.glowbkk.com). For the bash, they're flying Darragh Casey up from Koh Phangnan to drop all beats dirty in a 4-hour set, with support from Co2an (who has no association with carbon dioxide or chemistry). Music will be on the housey side of tech. It will be their regular crew, who like to go late, so should be a good party too.

PARTY

For another option to the Sat (Sep 22) mix, local nice guy Montonn is hosting Lessons after it was postponed a couple of weeks ago due to sound concerns. It's moved to Fish, above Cosmic Cafe (RCA Block C, Rama IX Road, 081-304-6907), which is a bit of an afterthought as a venue, but when the music is right it can be atmospheric enough. Line-up includes Joni Anwar and Paulie Sirisant with Mntnn to close it out. Expect a decent spread of beats from the pop star (who doesn't drink!), hopefully towards the minimal end of the spectrum, as he has been delivering recently on online music point UB Radio (www.ubradio.net/en/djs/mntnn-87). He's trying to push his music label Samutprakarn Sound (www.samutprakarnsound.com) through the party. Entry is B350 with a drink.
