Ice girl heats up AF

The reality show True Academy Fantasia (True AF) is known for its shocking surprises, including Season 9 champion crowned last Saturday night.

Viewers saw it coming when the show's host Setha Sirachaya gave a hint as a shock absorber before announcing Ponnphatsorn 'Ice' Chaianannithi as the winner and Wongsapat 'Zo' Tangniyom as runner-up. Both were underdogs in the talent competition.

"I was as surprised as everyone else, and I didn't think that a female contestant would again win the competition," Ice said.

In the finale, the 21-year-old hopeful performed I Don't Want To Miss A Thing and Thord, which earned her the most SMS votes and the True AF title.

Her first attempt to be a nak la fun (dream chaser) failed and this was her second go to be on the 24-hour reality show.

"I was 17 when I applied for True AF6. As I didn't want to be rejected again, I waited to be more grown-up and ready for the challenges of the reality show," said the university student, who majors in voice and luk krung _ a genre of popular music, which are typically ballads or ballroom dance songs.

In one of the show's weekly concerts, she showed her prowess crooning the luk krung classic, Sarm Huajai (Three Hearts). "The more I learn about luk krung music, the more I like it. As one of the young generation, I want to sing these classic songs and make them timeless," she said.

While specialising in old-style singing, the Ramkhamhaeng University student performed songs in other genres such as Rihanna's Rude Boy that revealed her sexy persona, and consequently she's been labelled a "True AF9 Sexy Girl".

"I may be remembered most for performing this song and I guess that I'm stuck with this sexy image," said the new True AF champion.
