A 73-year-old man who was returning home after receiving a relief bag was drowned on Thursday after a flash flood swept him away in Sa Kaew's Aranyaprathet district.

Samorn Kaewkomon's body was found wedged in a bush on Friday morning about 150 meters from the entrance of the village where he was last seen.

Initial police investigation showed that Samorn left his house in flooded Non Sang village of Tambon Takam at about 3pm on Thursday to pick up a relief bag at a nearby village. However on his way back, as he approached the entrance to his village, he was swept away by a strong current and disappeared.

After suffering severe flooding for the last four days but no rain for three days, water levels in the Muang Aranyaprathet municipality have now dropped by about 30 centimetres and small vehicles are able to access most areas. Tourists coaches to Rong Klue market near the border were seen returning to the area after being absent for a week due to the flooding.

Some villagers who evacuated to other areas also returned to their homes.

Meanwhile rescue workers were alerted by villagers in Dong Ngu village after a crocodile was spotted in a flooded area near the railway. They checked the area and captured a 1.50-metre fresh-water crocodile weighing about 20 kilogrammes. They speculated that it was a farm crocodile that escaped during the floods.
