BANGKOK, 21 August 2012 Mr. Surachai Liangboonlertchai has been named the First Deputy Senate Speaker, replacing Mr. Nikhom Wairatpanich who was elected as Senate Speaker last week.
Senators have congratulated the new First Deputy Senate Speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai on the appointment.
Seven people were nominated in the election. Each of them had an opportunity to deliver a 10-minute speech pertaining to his vision before the ballot. The result of the first ballot showed that none of the nominees had received more than half of the votes as required by law. But after the second ballot, Mr. Surachai beat Mr. Suradet Jiratiticharoen, who was a runner up, with a vote of 73-69.
After the voting, Mr. Surachai assured that he would do his best to serve the country. His service will be based on virtue, fairness, and benefits of the nation.
