Tropical Storm Gaemi has changed its course heading towards Thailand, going a bit further southward and resulting in even greater effects and much heavier rain, especially in the upper South, a key-man in overall flood and water management operations said Friday.

The maximum rainwater volume could be reaching 100 mm per hour in the upper South, which was a junction of the main thoroughfare to the entire region that could prevent all traffic in case of heavy flooding, said Royol Jitdon. The changing course means that areas under heavy rain will be expanded further, from lower Northeast and lower Central now to upper South, he added.

Regardless of any change in its course, Gaemi will likely be causing heavy rain in up to 60 per cent of areas in its path. Subsequent violent stroms can be expected if Gaemi's central eye maximises its potential in the Gulf of Thailand, and this all would be less violent if it occurs on the Andaman Sea coast, he said.
