Random gun shootings

Panic stricken locals contacted Pattaya police after three gunshots were fired into the sky at Bali Hai Pier in the middle of the night and murky figures were seen fleeing in the direction of South Pattaya in a Mitsubishi car.  When stopped by the police, the man who fired the shots, Mr Songkrit Thongnart, apparently an official in the Cleaning Department at City Hall, said it was all a misunderstanding as he fired his gun only to frighten away a group of young gangster-type teens who were starting to fight amongst themselves.

At the police station Mr Songkrit showed the documentation that the gun was indeed lawfully his but he was charged with firing a gun in a public place and disturbing the peace.  He said in his defense that he was only trying to keep the peace.  The remaining car riders were released without charge as there was no evidence they had broken the law in this curious incident.
