DPM Plodprasops visit to Phitsanulok to examine Bang Rakam water-management model

BANGKOK, 21 January 2013 – Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi has just made an inspection visit the Khlong Krung Krak monkey-cheek development project in Phitsanulok or the “Bang Rakam Model” project.

The deputy PM said on Sunday that he was instructed by PM Yingluck Shinawatra to travel to Bang Rakam District in Phitsanulok to follow up on the budget disbursement under the Bang Rakam Model project.


Mr. Plodprasop stated that the project is one of the government’s important flood prevention strategies.


In addition to the Khlong Krung Krak monkey cheek zone, Mr. Plodprasop also inspected the dredging of the Phaeng Phuay canal and the building of flood barriers to prevent water from the Yom River.


The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Bang Rakam Model is not only intended for the flood prevention, but also for consumption and agricultural purposes.


During the inspection trip, he also urged authorities of the Phitsanulok Province to urgently build more sluice gates to further perfect the Bang Rakam Model.


Mr. Plodprasob added that efficient management and equipment to control water in the Yom River are needed to help prevent future flood damages in related areas.
