BANGKOK, 13 February 2013 (NNT)-6 areas in Pattani and Narathiwat have been declared a curfew zone from now until 06.00 hrs tomorrow to hunt down the rest of the insurgents who attacked an army base in Narathiwat last night.
Fourth Army Area Commander Lt Gen Udomchai Thamsarorat has imposed a curfew on 4 sub-districts in Narathiwat and 2 others in Pattani following the attack on the army base in Bah Joh district last night.
The curfew would allow the army to work effectively while people are obligated to stay inside their houses for their safety at all times. According to the Fourth Army Area, 16 guns, 1 pickup truck and 1 motorcycle were taken from the insurgents during the raid. 16 of them died in the crossfire.
Many of them have been wounded and have escaped to nearby areas. The curfew has been enforced in the following sub-districts; Bahrae Nuea, Bahrae Tai, Palukasamoh and Yohmatee in Narathiwat while the other two, which are in Pattani, include Saithong and Donsaai.
Meanwhile, Air Force commander-in-chief Air Chief Marshal Prajin Jantong assured tight security at all airports in Songkhla, Pattani and Narathiwat as the latest attack indicated that the insurgents were targeting officials.
