Piti Bhirombhakdi, second from left, regional marketing director of Singha Corp, shakes hands with Henrik Andersen, second from right, Carlsberg regional CEO for Indochina, at the strategic alliance between the two brewers revealed Wednesday.
Singha Corporation
Singha Corp is banking on its strategic partnership with Danish brewer Carlsberg Group to open a new door for local fans, giving them access to English Premier League EPL teams.
Carlsberg has just signed up as the EPL's "official beer", so clubs will be lining up for the Danish beer's activities, said Singha Corp director Piti Bhirombhakdi, after the breweries' partnership was launched yesterday at a Bangkok hotel.
"With Singha and Carlsberg now partnered up, Thai fans will have the chance to get even closer to their beloved clubs," added Piti.
The partnership will also bring the EPL's five leading teams together in joint activities for the first time, with Singha-partnered Chelsea and Manchester United brought together with Carlsberg counterparts Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.
"It's rare to get the chance to see an exhibition tournament between all five teams," said Piti.
"The next 'Red War' [between Liverpool and Manchester United] will gain extra heat as a match between Singha and Carlsberg," he said.
Soccer-related marketing activities between the two firms will be worldwide, added Piti.
"For example, if Liverpool play in Europe or in an exhibition in Japan or South Korea, we will definitely take Thai supporters along for the experience. Fans won't have to wait to watching Liverpool play in Thailand or England."
Piti is also eyeing more activities in Thailand with Cable Thai Holding, EPL broadcasters for the 2013-2015 seasons. The two breweries are negotiating to become official sponsors of the CTH broadcasts.
However, local fans of Arsenal and Tottenham face a longer wait for a visit from their heroes because Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are already scheduled to play here this year.
"The Rajamangala National Stadium will be too busy to host more matches," he added.
Singha has sponsorship deals with both Manchester United and Chelsea. The Blues are scheduled to play a Thai team in Bangkok on July 17 while United are expected to play a friendly here in the same month, with a date yet to be finalised. Liverpool are also expected to return to Thailand in July.
Piti had good news for Manchester United fans concerned that the club's official website fails to mention Thailand as a stop on their 2013 Asia tour, with only Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong on the itinerary so far.
"Facilities and the stadium have already been booked for the same month [July]. I'll try my best to make it happen," he said.
