Boy killed, 18 injured in Pattani motorcycle bomb explosion

BANGKOK, 22 March 2013 (NNT) â€" A motorcycle bomb went off in downtown Pattani, killing a boy and injuring 18 people.

The explosion occurred in front of a police cooperatives store on Suwannamongkhon Road in Mueang district. In addition to the death and injuries, the explosion damaged 2 cars and 3 motorcycles parked near the motorcycle laden with the bomb. The 18 injured were sent to Pattani hospital. The boy who died in the explosion was 8 years old.


Inspection of CCTV camera footage revealed that the bomb-laden motorcycle was parked at the spot slightly after midday by 2 men aged 20-25 years. The explosion occurred about 20 minutes after the motorcycle was parked.


Officials believe the bombing to be the work of Masore Duerama’s insurgent group.
