Two minor earthquakes were recorded in the tourist destination of Pai district in Lampang on Thursday morning. No damage was reported.
Somboon Kositanon, director of the Lampang mineral resource office's zone 1 said the first quake, measured at 2.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 6.18am and the second, 2.9 on the Richter scale, occurred two minutes later.
He said the tremors were low level and had no impact on populated areas as the epicentre was in the forest.
The quakes was a consequence of shifts in the Sakaeng fault in Myanmar, which had already moved 15 times in March. The latest was on March 26 and was measured at 4.5 on the Richter scale.
The office reports there were a total of eight quakes with epicentres in northern provinces of Thailand at levels from 1.3-3.4 on the Richter scale.
